Iran raises the banner of "revenge" on the dome of the Jamkaran mosque in the city of Qom
The last time it happened, after the US elimination of General Qassem Soleimani, Tehran fired 20 ballistic missiles at the Ain Al Assad base which hosts US troops in Anbar in western Iraq.
The authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran raised a red banner known as "Salary flag" on the main dome of the Jamkaran mosque, in the holy city of Qom. The last time was after the killing of the head of the Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, who died on January 3, 2020 following a raid ordered by the former US administration of Donald Trump. On that occasion, Iran responded by firing 20 ballistic missiles at the Ain al Asad base in western Iraq, which hosts US troops. Raising the flag again was seen by some observers as a declaration of war. The move followed statements by the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, who issued a warning to Saudi Arabia, threatening it with possible attacks in light of its interference in Iran's internal affairs. According to Tehran, Riyadh is encouraging the protests that broke out in Iran through media coverage. "You are involved in this matter and you know you are vulnerable," Salami said.
Yesterday, the US newspaper "Wall Street Journal" reported that Saudi Arabia has shared information with the United States warning of an "imminent" attack by Iran against targets in the Kingdom and the Middle East, including Erbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan in Iraq. According to Saudi and US officials in response to the warning, Riyadh, Washington and other countries have increased the alert level among their military forces. Where confirmed, the planned attacks would aim to divert attention from the demonstrations Iran has been witnessing for weeks and for which "enemy" countries such as the US and Saudi Arabia are responsible, according to Tehran. The National Security Council of the White House said it was concerned about the warnings and made it known that it is ready to respond "in defense of the interests and partners in the region".
